Fw: Why we eat article

Ellen,
I was very interested in your article entitled "Why We Eat"
and I thought I would also like to share a point of view brought up during a friendship conversation the other night which also could be considered a significant truth in regards to this subject.

Up until our recent history humans roamed the earth and
tilled the earth to earn meals through hunting or planting and
reaping their food supply.  Every day offered the challenge of finding food for survival.  Thus, for thousands of years we ate whenever food was available and ate well because we were  never guaranteed when the next or where meal would appear.
Obviously, over time we humans became more secure as
we learned to assume more control over our "universe"
and grew our own food and later even raised our livestock
to feed our families as needed.

However, in the earlier years mother nature was always a "drought" or storm away and we had to learn to protect our food from other peoples and/or animals regularly leaving us alert and vulnerable  to the possibility of losing our food.  Even when we learned to store our food for the hard times we experienced loss and hunger.

Thus, our DNA is well programmed with the knowledge that eating when food is available is an essential learned behavior for survival. This information is deeply imbedded.

In countries such as the US we now live in a time of "abundance". Food is everywhere and readily available.  For some the DNA information regarding the need for food has become balanced with the knowledge that supply is available and the need for "continual eating" isn't rational nor necessary.

For others, it might be interesting to consider that the DNA information is "stuck" or obsessively cycling and alerting us
at a superconscious level for the need to eat whenever food is available and to eat as much as possible in case the food won't be available next time.
Awareness regarding where we've come from as humans allows us to be more gentle with ourselves by giving us a better understanding about the human condition. This awareness also removes the tendancy to judge others.   With this knowledge and awareness we are better equipped to make the choice to transcend the past and  override the embedded DNA information with the power of will.  This power is available to each of us and may be used to take  active control of many physiological challenges.

April newsletter 2007 WHY WE EAT

MONTHLY E-MESSAGES from IMADULATION

Topic: EATING

Why you Eat

Last month we discussed What you Eat.

Over the next few months we will explore Why you eat. How you eat. Where you eat.

"Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change."

-- Stephen R. Covey

Today let's discuss WHY you eat.

That sounds funny, doesn't it? You eat because you are hungry, right?

Many of us will admit we often eat for reasons other than physiological hunger.

Do you eat because the clock says "lunch time dinner time snack time" etc?

Do you ever eat to satisfy needs other than physiological hunger?

Why you eat matters. The first step to enhancing your understanding of why you eat is by increasing your conscious awareness. Once you begin to be aware of why you eat then you will no longer mindlessly stuff food in your mouth that does not nourish and support the health of your temple (physical body)

No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.
Albert Einstein

Mindful awareness of your conscious choices and the capacity to choose (a.k.a. free will) is the greatest power you possess as a human.

STOP! and F.E.E.L.

F.E.E.L. what is going on within and ask yourself,

"Is it Food that I want?"

"Is it Energy?"

"Is it an "Escape?"

"Is it Love?"

If it is food that you want, if you are truly physiologically hungry, then choose from a selection of healthy foods that nourish your temple.

If it is energy, then breathe deeply, oxygenate your system, take a brisk walk "Go Grab your Shoes", if you have the time, take a nap.

If you are bored and want an escape from your current situation, then rather than use food as a diversion, pursue a hobby, do something fun, read a book, visit a friend, volunteer your time, learn a new skill.

If you want love, food will not provide fulfillment for that most powerful need we have as humans. Food is NOT LOVE. It is important to realize that you are a being of love. If you question that or have doubts about the truth of that statement, then I recommend that you listen to the audio programs in Food for Thought® . May you realize that the energy of love moves through you, is what you are made of . May you recognize who you are and what you have to give so that you will experience the power of your love which endures regardless of external situations.

There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and
lifting people up.

-- John Andrew Holmes

If you have Food for Thought® audio series, then listen regularly, and you will notice how effortlessly you choose foods that are healthy and "alive", with limited processing & packaging, fresh water, choose invigorating exercise, secure quiet time for distressing your system and experience restorative sound sleep .

I welcome your participation in this series, and I encourage you to share your thoughts in our blog.. Please post your comments below.

I wish you the best of life… radiant health, prosperity, joy, peace, BLISS, delicious healthy food, deep satisfying breaths, and mostly love.
